Notitie persoon:
FORMER Devon president and Teignmouth official Clifford Froom has died at the age of 77

Clifford Froom passed away on Sunday 5th August 2012
Froom, who lived in Shaldon, joined the Devon committee in 1992 and served as county president between 2004-2006.
Originally from Surrey, he worked in Birmingham and Ireland before moving to South Devon, where he ran the Links Bakery in Torquay before retiring.
His funeral will take place at St Peter’s Church, Shaldon on Tuesday, August 21st at 11am, and afterwards at Teignmouth RFC.
GENEROUS tributes have been paid to former Devon RFU president and Teignmouth official Clifford Froom, whose funeral takes place next week.
Froom died aged 77 last week after struggling against ill health for some time.
Maureen Jackson, the current county president, said it was her predecessor who talked her into standing for the Devon committee more than 10 years ago.
“Clifford was such a gentleman and someone I knew I could turn to for advice as I took on committee tasks,” said Jackson. “I have great affection for him and his family.”
Among the other tributes is one from ex-Devon coach Charlie Mahon.
“During my time as county coach I found Clifford the perfect committeeman - supportive, hard-working and very amiable,” said Mahon.

Froom – who was half English and half Dutch – was educated in Surrey and did his National Service between 1954-56 in the Army intelligence corps.
He played rugby for the Old Whitgiftians and Rosslyn Park and once represented Oxfordshire County, but only because he was in the right place at the right time “He went to watch an Oxfordshire match and some of the team were late due to a breakdown,” said daughter Natallie. “He always had his rugby boots in his car, so he volunteered to play. Unfortunately his representative career was cut short when the other players managed to fix their car and were able to take their positions halfway through the match.”
Froom trained in business management and worked for engineering firm GKN until the early 1980s, when a health issue prompted a change of direction.
South Devon beckoned and a number of business ventures undertaken, including a guest house, building projects and the ownership of a bakery in Torquay for nine years.
Froom was on the Devon RFU committee for 19 years, four as treasurer and two as president, and served four years as an England colts selector.
He was also chairman of Shaldon Bowling Club and treasurer to a number of organisations.
Clifford Froom is survived by Mary, his wife of 49 years, three children and four grandchildren
